October is Crime Prevention Month and it’s a great time to review your personal safety initiatives that can keep you, your family, home and community safe. Sticking to the 9 p.m. Routine by removing all valuables from your car and locking it is a great step in preventing this crime of opportunity we see all too often. When doors are locked and valuables are out of sight, criminals are more likely to move on.
Pay attention to what’s going on near you and report suspicious or criminal behavior to law enforcement. By providing information early, you can help prevent harm to others. To report a threat or suspicious incident, call the Pasco County Non-Emergency Line at 727-847-8102, option 7, or report tips online at PascoSheriff.com/tips. If you’re in danger or witness an emergency, call 911. Recognizing and reporting suspicious activity can help prevent you and your loved ones from becoming a victim. Stay safe Pasco!Domestic violence is one of the most common, and often most dangerous, calls for service the Pasco Sheriff’s Office is called to investigate. Domestic Violence Awareness Month is observed in October as a way to show survivors they’re not alone, while also bringing light to resources available to survivors. PSO is turning our social media profile pictures purple this month to do just that. PSO reassures survivors of domestic violence that both help and resources are available. No one, not even those you love or live with, has the right to harm you physically or mentally.
This October, join PSO in raising awareness to the scourge of domestic violence and resources that are available. Learn to recognize the signs of abusive relationships and be a supportive friend or family member to a survivor. If you or a loved one is in need of assistance, reach out to the National Domestic Violence hotline at 800-799-7233, or find other resources available on PSO’s website at PascoSheriff.com/domestic-violence/.
PSO is committed to preventing crime in our county by educating citizens on ways to reduce their chance of becoming victim and having open discussions about concerns. Animal-Assisted Therapy K9 Mango and his partner recently attended a community event to discuss this, as well as PSO’s K-9 Unit and ways citizens can get involved with PSO.
