Among all the mistakes a person can make during hurricane season, one of the most common is being apathetic. A lack of planning or concern for this serious threat can lead to devastating consequences. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Look up your evacuation zone, build an emergency kit, and note the unique hazards you may encounter in your area.

Whether you are new to Florida or have lived here your whole life, it is important to refresh your hurricane preparedness knowledge. This month, the Pasco Sheriff’s Office is highlighting the early stages of hurricane planning on our news site. We encourage you to review this information and begin your preparations now.

Community Based Resources

Last month was Mental Health Awareness Month and, although mental health is not traditionally considered a law enforcement issue, most calls we respond to have a mental health component.

The Pasco Sheriff’s Office maintains a list of valuable community resources on our website, providing citizens with a place to start when seeking help. In addition to mental health services, the website also offers information for those struggling with substance abuse, homelessness, as well as options for our veterans, and more.

“We Fight As One” isn’t just the motto deputies follow on the road when backing each other up — it’s a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when we support each other as a community. Help us honor this mission by sharing this link and letting people know their options.

The Pasco Sheriff’s Office recently held our annual Shotgun Shootout Event. We had a great turnout, with citizens joining us for a day of fundraising and fun. We appreciate all our sponsors and everyone who came out to show their support.

These donations will benefit Sunrise Domestic Violence Shelter, Gold Shield Foundation, our Family Support Network, The Hope Shot, Explorer Post 916, and Pasco Sheriff K9 Association.

Thank you to Title Sponsor Stepp’s Towing and all our sponsors. The success of this event wouldn’t have been possible without your generosity and partnership. We also appreciate Tampa Bay Sporting Clays for being excellent hosts, the hard work of our volunteers, and everyone who came out to show their support.

Summer lovin’ isn’t always a blast, like when the “total catch” you fall for is actually a scammer. Through dating apps, websites, and social media platforms, criminals partake in a crime known as Romance Scams. These fraudsters create fake profiles to connect with individuals, build relationships, and then exploit that fabricated romance to manipulate victims into providing money or personal information.

PSO’s Economic Crimes Unit recently received an uptick in these heartbreaking crimes. Protect your heart and your finances by learning the signs of a Romance Scam and how to defend against them.
