Protection in the digital world is a growing concern. The internet provides many opportunities and benefits, but also creates new tricks for criminals to reach unsuspecting victims that can be difficult to spot or trace. Safer Internet Day, recognized during February, highlights the importance of making the internet a creative, educational and most of all, safe space for everyone. This annual initiative is an opportunity to recognize potential dangers and simple ways to protect yourself while using the internet. Like protecting your home and other valuables, digital security is essential to stay safe while connecting online. During February, Pasco Sheriff’s Office is sharing ways to stay safe while scrolling the web, using apps and other technology.
Online dating provides the ideal environment for criminals to remain anonymous while targeting vulnerable individuals seeking companionship. What may start as a simple romance in chat rooms, direct messages or email can quickly evolve into a romance scam, stealing more than someone’s heart. With love in the air for Valentine’s Day, Pasco Sheriff’s Office is sharing ways to stay safe while connecting online and avoid becoming a victim of a romance scam. Read More About Romance Scams Here
Being kind can make a difference. Between calls for service, a Community Engagement corporal joined a young citizen who was playing basketball at a park. He took a moment to recognize the young individual for his impressive basketball skills, good sportsmanship and positive attitude. The corporal shared some PSO “Be Kind” bracelets with this individual and his younger sister, to inspire them to continue sharing their kindness and positivity in the community.
