AUGUST 2025

As Pasco County students get ready to return to school next week, we want everyone to keep safety at the top of their mind while on our roads. Remaining cautious and distraction-free while traveling is critical, whether you’re behind the wheel, walking, biking or riding the bus.

Our School Crossing Guards (SCG) and Traffic Control Officers (TCO) recently completed their annual certification with the Florida Department of Transportation and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. These dedicated members play a vital role in protecting people in school zones every day, helping them cross busy streets and maintaining traffic flow. Please do your part by following their directions and slowing down when you see those school zone signs.

We’re looking forward to another fantastic school year and proud to partner with you in making sure it’s a safe one for everyone!

Apps To Know

Returning to school is the perfect time to talk about safe, appropriate online behavior with your kids. Apps and the internet can be used in harmful ways, such as committing crimes or exploiting children. It’s crucial to monitor who your kids talk to online and know the apps they use. Consider downloading the same apps to understand how they work and explore parental controls. Open conversations about online dangers will give kids the information they need to stay safe. PSO provides a list of apps parents should know. We encourage parents and guardians to research additional news and trending apps.

Developing these safe habits can help protect our students throughout the school year!

Pasco Sheriff’s Office’s Division of Emergency Management hosted a joint operations training last week to review our response to crises, such as hurricanes. Representatives from various agencies participated in the exercise, creating a realistic simulation of how first responders coordinate their efforts.
The exercise involved scenarios for specialty teams to mobilize their members and equipment, including an active threat at a facility, water rescues from flooded areas and responding to a collapsed building. Immersive hands-on trainings like these reinforce our procedures, strengthen communication and enhance response efforts.
Thank you to the agencies and organizations that participated in this important training to enhance our efforts in keeping our communities safe: Pasco County Government, Pasco County Fire Rescue, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad, Florida State Guard, Florida Fish and Wildlife, HCA Bayonet Point Hospital, TECO, SECO, Duke Energy and Withlacoochee River Electric.
