PSO is dedicated to keeping students, schools and faculty safe to promote a positive and supportive learning environment. Threats have consequences, even if they are fake. PSO urges parents and guardians to talk with students about making sound decisions and to report anything suspicious to a responsible adult. Together, we can create a safe learning environment for Pasco’s students.
Pasco Sheriff’s Office is thrilled to announce the launch of our official app, Pasco Sheriff News. The app provides citizens with direct access to news from the Pasco Sheriff’s Office on any mobile device. In addition to social media platforms and our news.pascosheriff.com website, PSO will share breaking news through the Pasco Sheriff News app. The app will feature PSO community alerts, events, news and missing people. We’re proud to provide this additional resource to our community, so citizens will always be in the know about PSO.
With school back in session August 10, communities will see more school buses, bike riders and pedestrians. For everyone’s safety, eliminate distractions while driving or walking, such as phones, especially in school zones. Like drivers, pedestrians and bike riders must follow the rules of the road and obey safety signals. Cross at the crosswalk where drivers expect pedestrians to cross, and wait for a Crossing Guard or signal to indicate it’s time to cross. Take time to understand Florida’s bus stop laws and always look for a bus’s stop indicators like lights and signs. Discuss how your student will travel to and from school to build safe habits and confidence, and consider doing a “trial run” before the first day.
Though many apps can be helpful, it’s important that parents and guardians are aware of what apps students are using and talk with students about safe and appropriate online behavior. PSO’s School Resource Officers have compiled a list of apps parents and guardians should know about. It’s important that children are careful with who they trust, as it’s easy for predators to lie online. Having an open conversation about online dangers is important to prevent children from becoming victims to online predators.
