SCHOOL ALERT

School Alert: Unspecified Out-of-State School Threat

Pasco Sheriff’s Office continued to investigate a hoax threat, which affected several schools yesterday afternoon, and arrested a 13-year-old Crews Lake Middle School student as a result.

PSO received information that an unknown individual called an out-of-state crisis line and reported that he wanted to “shoot up a school” during that call. The threat referred to Chasco Middle School, and the school was placed on alert and then controlled campus while deputies continued the investigation.

Through investigative measures, it was determined that the call originated in the Shady Hills area of Pasco County, which placed several schools in that area on a controlled campus status while PSO deputies searched for the individual. Ultimately, it was determined that the call was made by a 13-year-old Crews Lake Middle School student as a prank. The student was arrested for Written Threats to Kill, which is a felony.

Once again, PSO reminds students and their parents or guardians that threats such as these have real consequences. PSO will always thoroughly investigate all threats we’re made aware of.

Update: All schools have now resumed normal operations. The investigation is ongoing.

Update: As part of this investigation, Shady Hills Elementary School, Mary Giella Elementary School and Crews Lake Middle School are all on controlled campus at this time. Chasco Elementary and Middle Schools are currently conducting controlled dismissals. An update will be provided when available.

Pasco Sheriff’s deputies have an increased presence at Chasco Middle School out of abundance of caution, while deputies investigate a potential, non-specific threat from out of state. An update will be provided when available.
