Update Sept. 15 at 2 p.m.: PSO has throughly investigated the previously mentioned incident, and has determined money was posted to trees by juveniles in a different social media dance trend and did not test positive for fentanyl.
PSO reminds citizens that if you see anything suspicious or out of the ordinary, say something! Call law enforcement immediately and don’t touch or move suspicious items until they can be investigated and determined to be safe. Original Alert Sept. 15 at 8:55 a.m.: Pasco Sheriff’s Office is aware of a trend in which both real and fake money is placed in higher traffic public areas, such as in mailboxes, in shipped or delivered grocery purchases and at parks. This money has also tested positive for fentanyl in some cases. PSO is currently investigating an incident that could possibly resemble this trend, however, it has not yet been determined to be related to the trend at this time, as the investigation is active and ongoing.
