Pasco Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating a deputy-involved shooting in the Davista Ave. and Sawtell St. area of New Port Richey that resulted in the death of an adult man, and the shooting of one adult man, one adult woman, and one deputy. Prior to law enforcement arrival, the subject, Aaron Rodriguez (DOB: 3/15/93), shot an adult man who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The caller, an adult woman, reported being shot by the Rodriguez as well. Preliminary information suggests this dispute was regarding property use.
Upon arrival, PSO deputies immediately located Rodriguez inside a nearby garage. Numerous attempts were made to de-escalate the situation through verbal engagement by multiple deputies, however, Rodriguez remained armed and refused to comply with commands, resulting in an exchange of gun fire with deputies. One deputy was shot by Rodriguez. Rodriguez was ultimately struck by deputies returning fire. Deputies detained Rodriguez and secured the gun. Rodriguez, along with the female victim and the deputy, were transported to a local hospital for their injuries. The deputy’s K9 partner sustained no injuries during the incident. The deputy has non-life threatening injuries.
As per PSO’s standard protocol, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the deputy-involved shooting. There is no public safety threat. The deputies who fired the rounds have been placed on paid administrative leave pursuant to policy. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time.
